Reading your metrics

plzxplain’s critique is built on three measurement engines. Understanding what each one checks helps you act on the feedback.

Block-in

Measures how closely your painting’s proportions and placement match your reference — bounding box and silhouette overlap, not just “does it look right”.

Value

Groups your painting into light and dark bands and compares the value structure against the reference. Most beginner paintings lose contrast in the shadows — this metric shows you exactly where.

Edge

Looks at how hard or soft your transitions are, and whether you’re varying edge quality across the painting (all-hard or all-soft edges usually read as flat).

Each critique links its wording back to the specific metric that produced it, so you can always trace a comment back to a number.
